Is misinformation the symptom but trust the cause?

Is misinformation the symptom, but trust the cause?

Join us on the 6th November for our conversations over drinks to answer One Question from different perspectives.

We often talk about misinformation as the problem. But has it fractured our trust, or is it thriving because trust had already broken down?

The speed of innovation, the democratisation of information, cancel culture, and the rise of personal brands have all reshaped our relationship with media and institutions, from education to government to business. The old vertical lines of authority have flattened, with many of us now looking to peers, colleagues and influencers for information that reflects our beliefs more than the facts.

As crisis follows crisis, and politics gives way to gamesmanship, trust continues to erode. So instead of treating the symptom, should we be asking how we rebuild trust in our institutions?

Sarah is joined by Will Barker, Deputy Head of News at The Sun,  Zoe Melarkey, Director of Communications for Coventry Building Society, and Ed Hodgson, Director of Research at More in Common,  to explore One Question in conversation.
