Is AI the answer?

Is AI the answer?

(If so, what question are we asking?)

Join us on 11th June 2025 for our next Conversation over Drinks to answer One Question.

If AI is the answer, what question are we asking? Are we simply craving answers? When the world feels overwhelming, do we long for a simple fix? Are we investing in efficiency and optimisation to build our businesses, adapting to a new age, or is it a misguided promise of simplicity in a world that is anything but?

Innovation in AI has been a long time coming, and then it arrived, shifting the way we see the world and asking, if not demanding, that we evolve how we work, live, and play. But what questions should we be asking of the technology? Can we strike a balance between the immense opportunity to innovate and build more sustainable, profitable businesses and the need for human empathy and emotional intelligence?

Can AI address inequity, solve the climate crisis, support mental health, or ease geopolitical tensions? Or is it making us irrelevant—and if so, to what end? Are we in control of the technology, or is it in control of us?

Renowned Photographer Rankin returns to One Question to explore this question through the lens of art following the launch of FAIK, his new exhibition and magazine documenting the impact of AI on the creative world.

Rankin is joined by Tami Hoffman, Director of Public Policy at The Guardian, shaping the media organisation’s global public policy strategy and advising on their approach to artificial intelligence, addressing challenges such as misinformation and strategic lawsuits against public participation, collaborating with politicians, regulators, and platforms to navigate the evolving media landscape.

And, Elena Simperl, Professor of computer science at King’s College London, Co-Director of the King’s Institute for Artificial Intelligence, Director of research at the Open Data Institute. Elena brings deep technical knowledge, coupled with a commitment to the societal and ethical dimensions of AI, making her an invaluable contributor to discussions on trust, accountability, and how we design AI systems that genuinely work for people.

Hosted at Café Murano, Covent Garden, the evening offers you the chance to answer One Question in conversation with our community, over a glass of wine and Italian cicchetti.
