Matthew Luhn, one of the Original story creators at Pixar

On our blog this week, we’re speaking to accomplished story creator, Matthew Luhn, one of the original storytellers at Pixar whose story credits include Toy Story, Monsters Inc, Finding Nemo and more. Matthew has had to work hand-in-hand with technology to tell the stories that we have all come to know and love as Pixar fans. As someone whose professional world revolves around fiction, in reality, can we trust all aspects of technology? Therefore, ahead of our event, we asked Matthew:

“What one piece of technology do you tend not to trust?”

Matthew said:

“As a storyteller, I know having a great villain is just as important as having a great hero. That villain can be an evil Jedi, a hungry shark, or a jealous wannabe superhero like Syndrome from The Incredibles. When I was kid, my Dad took me to LOTS of movies, his favourites being SCI-FI, involving villains that were robots, usually wiping out the human race and taking over the world. From the first Superman cartoons, to Terminator, to the original Westworld movie, these robot villains freaked me out as a kid. Still this day, I don’t trust the idea of new technology that involves robots and AI. Unless of course, they’re cute little garbage collecting robots, like Wall-e.”
