Valerio Magliulo, Head of Internal Product at Monzo

For our blog this week we’re talking to Valerio Magliulo, head of internal product at Monzo. A company which describes itself as ‘a new kind of bank’, Monzo relies heavily on technology to bring a seamless service to its customers and compete with traditional banking models. Valerio manages the technology which allows Monzo to operate effectively – but, as a technology focused individual, does he really trust all technology? Ahead of our event, we asked Valerio:

“What one piece of technology do you tend not to trust?”

Valerio said:

“I’m growing increasingly concerned by automated decisions performed by algorithms, especially in financial services. I am astonished by the ease with which customers are often rejected for a loan based solely on their credit scores without any humans reviewing their credit reports first. In the future, I imagine these kinds of algorithms will incorporate qualitative elements alongside quantitative ones, but for the time being, I would like to see more human validation on top of automated decision-making.”

To join Valerio and experts from a range of industries at our event on May 17, you can register for tickets here.
